Inorganic and Organic

Postby jordanginyard_ » Thu Nov 19, 2020 7:06 pm

What is the difference between Inorganic and Organic Bases? Are there any problems in the textbooks that we can practice on ?

Organic compounds always contain carbon while inorganic compounds contain metal and other elements.

I'm working through the textbook problems now and will reply if I find any about this topic.

As stated, organic compounds are ones that contain carbon and are used throughout biology, like sugars (C6H12O6 for example). Inorganic compounds are all the other compounds you are used too seeing, like metals, salts, and different covalent compounds (like H2O).

In the science field, organic will 99% of the time refer to carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen (occasionally sulfur and phosphorus) and possess biological properties. And inorganic will typically refer to everything else with lack biological significance.

Organic molecules have to have carbon within them, while inorganic molecules can have carbon, but they do not have to contain carbon.

It's important to note that most organic molecules have C-H bonds, so even though CO2 has carbon in it, it's an inorganic compound because there are no C-H bonds.

Organic compounds (or at least most of them) contain C-H bonds (an example is C6H12O6 which is glucose). Inorganic compounds do not have C-H bonds.

The difference between organic and inorganic bases is that an organic base contains carbon atoms where inorganic bases don't.
