Amphoteric compounds

Postby Lauren_Wiegand_2K » Sat Dec 09, 2023 12:32 am

How can amphoteric compounds act as both acids and bases? Can you provide examples of common amphoteric compounds?

Amphoteric compounds can act as both acids and bases because they can either donate or accept protons depending on the nature of the reactants. The most common example is H2O because in the presence of a stronger acid, water can act as a base by accepting a proton (acid rain). Hope this helps!
