Postby Maritza Jacobo » Sat Dec 09, 2023 1:24 am

Hey, what is an amphoteric compound, and in what conditions would we see it react with acids and bases? Thanks!

to answer the first part of your question, an amphoteric compound is a compound that can act as both an bronsted acid and base, so donate and accept a proton. this can be seen in hco3-. it has a hydrogen it can donate (acts as an acid) and a - charge that indicated it can accept a proton.
