Determining Amphoteric Compounds

Is the only way you can determine if a compound is amphoteric is if it is located near that diagonal band of metalloids?

Yes I believe you just have to know those specific atoms are amphoteric compounds.

Also, remember that water is amphoteric as well!

as long as you have a metalloid in the formula, the substance is a amphoteric compound.
