Identifying Amphoteric Compounds

Postby ahuang » Wed Nov 27, 2019 11:09 pm

I understand the definition of amphoteric compounds, but how do you identify them or do you have to memorize a list?

The amphoretic compounds are going to be the ones near the staircase on the periodic table. Although it is easier if you have them memorized, if you have a periodic table we can still figure out which ones are most likely to be amphoretic. Hope this helps!

As stated before, amphoteric oxides closely match the diagonal band of metalloids on the periodic table. However, they are not exactly the same, so I think it would be better to memorize the elements commonly found in amphoteric oxides.
