The difference between amphoteric and amphiprotic lies in understanding the difference between lewis acids and bronsted acids. Bronsted acids require a proton to be donated or accepted. The lewis acid definition encompasses all bronsted acids, but also acids which do not donate protons but rather just accept electrons such as ammonia.
If a compound can be both an acid or a base at all, it is amphoteric.
If a compound can be both an acid or a base, but specifical to the bronsted definition meaning a proton can be accepted or donated, then it is amphiprotic.
Thus, all amphiprotic acids are also amphoteric, but not all amphoteric acids are amphiprotic. This is because all bronsted acids are lewis acids, but not all lewis acids are bronsted acids.

Amphiprotic includes Bronsted definition when amphoteric just means the compound can be both acid and base.

All amphiprotic substances are amphoteric, because they all act like either acids or bases depending on the situation. However, not all amphoteric substances are amphiprotic, because amphiprotic substances donate or accept hydrogen ions, and some amphoteric substances don't have to donate or accept hydrogen ions to act like acids or bases (they could be lewis acids or bases)

Hi! There are both similarities between amphoteric and amphoprotic molecules. An amphoteric molecule is a molecule that can act as both an acid or a base (ex: H2O). An amphiprotic molecule is a molecule that can both accept a proton or donate a proton. All amphoteric molecules can be considered amphiprotic molecules, yet all amphioprotic molecules cannot be considered to be amphoteric molecules.
