Amphoteric vs amphiprotic
What is the difference between amphoteric and amphiprotic compounds? Why is something that is amphiprotic also amphoteric, but not the other way around?

Re: Amphoteric vs amphiprotic
An amphoteric compound react with an acid or a base; an amphiprotic compound can give off a proton or receive a proton.
Re: Amphoteric vs amphiprotic
Amphoteric means the compound can act as an acid or base, whereas amphiprotic means that the compound can donate and accept protons.

Amphoteric means the compound can act as an acid or base, whereas amphiprotic means that the compound can donate and accept protons.
Building on to this, amphiprotic compounds are always amphoteric by definition.
