Amphoteric

Postby Cecilia Cisneros 1F » Thu Dec 10, 2020 8:51 pm

Would we be asked to see how an amphoteric compound will act as an acid or base in water? (pH <,>,= 7) OR do those types of questions just refer to analyzing salts?

I'm pretty sure amphoteric compounds react depending on the molecules around them and since water is relatively neutral it would be hard to tell. I don't think it will be asked!

I also don't think it will be asked on the test because it wasn't gone over much in lectures.

I think one of the TA's said this will be covered in 14B, so we don't have to worry about this right now.

I'm pretty sure this isn't going to be on the final but it exhibits either acid characteristics or base characteristics depending on what it is being added to.

I don't think we need to know this.

I highly doubt it will be covered on the test.

This will be more covered in 14B I believe is what Dr. Lavelle was alluding to in the lectures. However, when amphoteric, the compound does have the ability to be an acid or base

My TA also said that it is more of a 14B topic so we are okay not knowing it.
