Textbook Q 6A.17

Postby Jason Nguyen_1B » Thu Dec 10, 2020 11:01 pm

For this question, the textbook stated that As2O3 is amphoteric. I know that metalloid oxides typically form amphoteric compounds. However on professor Lavelle's lecture on Friday (12/4), he showed a periodic with basic, acidic, and amphoteric oxides. On that periodic table, it showed As2O3 as an acidic oxide. I was wondering which is correct?

As2O3 is amphoteric because As is a metalloid and can act as either an acid or base. I'm not sure why he put it as an acidic oxide but I think you should classify it as amphoteric.
