Hi, are compounds containing silicon amphoteric (like SiO2)?
It seems like there wasn't a clear list of amphoteric compounds given, so I'm not sure which metalloids to identify as amphoteric.
Thanks

Re: Is Silicon an amphoteric element?
The amphoteric oxides are typically formed by the elements that are similar to the diagonal line of metalloids on the periodic table. Amphoteric acids include BeO, Al2O3, Ga2O3, GeO2, As2O3, In2O3, SnO, SnO2, Sb2O3, PbO, PbO2, Bi2O3, which is shown in Figure 6A.7 in the textbook, so I don't think SiO2 would be amphoteric.

Re: Is Silicon an amphoteric element?
I don't think that SiO2 could be an amphoteric element. SiO2 is insoluble in water, therefore hard to react with either acids or bases. Hope this help!

No Silicon is not an amphoteric element, it's oxide is not amphoteric.
