Are all amphoteric compounds oxides?

In class we learned that there is a band of amphoteric oxides closely matching the band of metalloids. Are all amphoteric compounds oxides? Why?

I think all amphoteric compounds are oxides. I am not entirely sure but I think the reason for this is that oxygen is just good at accepting electrons, so having an oxygen in a compound helps it be better at both accepting and donating electrons?
