B(OH)3 as a Lewis base

Postby David Gomez-Novy 1I » Thu Nov 07, 2024 11:50 pm

Why is B(OH)3 considered a Lewis acid? In what way does it act as an electron acceptor? Is it that the electrons are accepted as an additional lone pair?

It's a Lewis acid because it reacts as an electron acceptor. The Lewis structure doesn't have a complete octet so there is a constant need for another electron from a Lewis base.
