Both acid and base..?

Postby Samantha Pamintuan 1A » Tue Nov 12, 2024 10:17 pm

Hi! I was just wondering if there will ever be an instance when a molecule could be either a lewis acid or lewis base. If so, why? Thanks!

Yes, a molecule can act as both an Lewis acid and base if it can both donate and receive a lone pair. An example of this is water which can either accept or receive depending on the reaction.
