Neutralization

Postby Rohan Gianchandani 2J » Sat Dec 07, 2024 9:28 pm

Do neutralization reactions only occur with strong acid and a strong base or any acid and base?

Hey!

Neutralization reactions can occur between any acid and base, whether they are strong or weak. When a strong acid reacts with a strong base, they completely neutralize each other, usually resulting in a neutral solution. However, reactions involving weak acids or bases may produce solutions that are slightly acidic or basic, depending on the relative strengths of the reactants.

Hope this helps!

Strong acids and strong bases completely disassociate. This means that they react to form a dissociated neutral salt, like NaCl in the form of Na+ and Cl-, and water. To neutralize, equal moles of each need to be added so there is no remaining acid or base left.
