PH solutions
Why does a salt containing a base raise the solutions pH, while in acids it would decrease the PH?
Re: PH solutions
A salt containing a base will raise the solutions pH because a higher pH value indicates a basic solution. This reaction produces OH- which therefore causes an increase in the pH value and the acidity decreases. With an acid, a hydronium ion is produced and the pH lowers, creating more acidity.
Re: PH solutions
because of the PH range which is from 1-14. 1-6.9 being acidic, 7= water(neutral), 7.1-14 being basic
Re: PH solutions
when a salt contains a base, it causes the amount of [OH-] to raise, which increases the pH meaning that the solution itself becomes basic (ph > 7).
