lewis vs bronsted
Can someone explain the difference between a lewis acid and base and a bronsted acid and base?

Bronsted acids and bases depend on the donation and accepting a proton [H+]. A acid donates a proton and a base accepts the proton. On the other hand Lewis acids and bases dont need to have hydrogen. Instead Lewis acids accept electrons and Lewis bases donate electrons.

A Lewis Acid/Base is defined as an electon acceptor/ an electron donor, meaning the lewis base gives away its electrons while a lewis acid receives electrons. A Bronsted Acid/ Base is defined as a proton donor/ proton acceptor, meaning bronsted acid gives away hydrogen/protons, while a bronsted base recieves hydrogen/ protons. Hope this helps.
