I think it would be helpful to know for the final in order to know which method to use to find the pH, since strong acids completely disassociate and weak acids only partially disassociate.
I think it's important just to know the trends on the periodic table, which will help you determine which acids/bases are strong. For example, group 1 and group 2 hydroxides are generally strong bases. In addition, we learned that as the atomic radius increases (weaker bonds), it's easier for acids to give up an H+ (making it a stronger acid), which is why acid strength ranges from HF<HCl<HBr<HI.
We should probably know the common strong and weak acids and bases, but otherwise there are ways we could determine the strength, such as a the presence of higher electronegative elements to offset charge or the length of the bonds.
