CaO (s) in H2O

CaO (s) in H2O

I was wondering if someone could please clarify/confirm my reasoning for why CaO(s) in water will form Ca2+ and OH-. I feel like I might be over complicating it. I understand that it dissociates which creates the Ca2+. Does the OH- come from he Oxygen from the CaO breaking off, essentially taking one of the hydrogen from water and then as a result creating two OH- ions? Also, does this make CaO a Lewis acid or base? (Which one is accepting the electron pair and which is giving it away?)

CaO is a strong base, so it dissociates into Ca2+ and O2-. The O2- accepts a proton from water to form OH-. Since this creates a basic solution, CaO is a base.
