Lewis acid and base
Hello, I was wondering to what extent we need to know about Lewis acids and bases. I know the basic information (eg. one shares and one donates), but I don’t know if that’s enough for the test. Can someone give me more information about their differences and similarities?

Re: Lewis acid and base
The outline on the class website says we need to know how to identify and draw them, as well as explain their characteristics and how they form coordinate covalent bonds.

Re: Lewis acid and base
When given an example we would probably need to identify if it is an acid or base like in lecture he told us BF3 and H+ are lewis acids. But that can be found with basic information about acid and bases.

Re: Lewis acid and base
In the context of coordination compounds, the transition metal is the Lewis acid and the ligands are the Lewis bases because the ligands donate electron pairs to the transition metal to form coordinate covalent bonds.

Re: Lewis acid and base
We need to know how they relate to coordinate atoms, how they are electron pair donors or acceptors, and examples of some common ones.
