Ligands

Postby Vikramjeet Gill 1C » Thu Dec 06, 2018 6:58 pm

Can someone explain what a neutral ligand is and some examples of it?

A neutral ligand contributes no charge to the coordination compound. An example would be H20 (aqua) or NH3 (ammine).

A neutral ligand has no effect on charge because it is neutral.

a neutral ligand has no affect on the charge of the compound. like H2O for example

A neutral ligand like H2O would not provide a charge in the complex it is in.

Some common neutral ligands are H2O, NH3, and CO. They are neutral because they have a charge of zero and do not affect the charge of the overall ligand complex

A neutral coordination does not contribute to the charge of a coordination compound. Examples include: NH3 (ammine), H2O (aqua), NO (nitrosyl), CO (carbonyl),ethylenediamine, and and diethylenetriamine.

A neutral ligand would include H2O NH3 NO CO NH2CH2NH2 NH2CH2CH2NHCH2CH2NH2. all of these would not affect the charge of the cordination compound. Theses are also under how to name coordination compounds on Lavelle's website
