How to tell if an ion is acidic or basic?

Are positively charged ions always acidic because they can accept an electron pair? Are the negatively charged ions basic because they will give it up?

You need to tell it from Lewis structures because the charges of ions stem from formal charges which also depend on the valence electrons of the atoms that from the ion.
