Acids and Bases affecting the pH

Postby Brevin Hensley 1C » Sun Dec 09, 2018 1:13 am

How would the pH of a solution differ if you used a strong acid vs. a weak acid?

A strong acid dissociates completely so it would result in more H+ ions in the solution meaning a lower pH.

A weak acid will not dissociate completely. Some of the acid will remain while some will dissociate into H+ and the conjugate base. Therefore not as much H+ will be present in the solution so it will have a higher pH.
