Acid and Base Consumption in Humans

Postby KHowe_1D » Sat Nov 23, 2019 1:24 pm

Why is it that humans can consume (and enjoy consuming) relatively acidic things but can't consume most bases? It it like this for most species?

Well most bases then to be very bitter in taste, and are generally very corrosive for the human body, even more so than acids. So from a food safety standpoint and a taste standpoint, I don't see why people would enjoy consuming basic foods.

To add on to this, there is a biological instinct to avoid bitter foods because they are associated with poisonous substances.
