About 6A.17

Postby Eesha Sohail 1D » Sat Dec 07, 2019 2:41 am

I'm having trouble figuring out whether different oxides are acidic, basic, or amphoteric. Can someone help me figure out what to look for to decide each case?

Here's what my TA told me:
metals form basic oxides
nonmetals form acidic oxides
elements diagonally from Be to Po on periodic table and some d-block elements form amphoteric molecules.

so for example, SO2 would be acidic since S is a nonmetal.
