Hi,

In this textbook problem, the reaction between SO2 and Cl was written like this. Is this the correct Lewis structure for SO2?

The better lewis structure would have two S-O double bonds, because the formal charges would all be 0. I think that this other lewis structure is used because it results in a positive formal charge of the sulfur, letting it bond more easily to the negative chlorine ion.
