Determining an acid and base

Postby Jennifer1E » Tue Aug 01, 2017 7:30 pm

What are some ways to determine if we have a weak base/acid and strong base/acid without having to memorize them?

There are 6-8 strong acids and bases (each) that you must memorize. After you have memorized those 15 total (approximately), anything that isn't one of those must be either a weak base or a weak acid.

Note that anything that ends in -COOH is a weak acid and anything that ends in -NH2 or -NH3 is a weak base.
