Proton "Donation"

Postby Summer de Vera 2C » Sun Dec 02, 2018 12:13 pm

Hi! Just to clarify, when Bronsted acids "donate" protons, does this just mean it's donating a hydrogen atom (H+)? Because I know protons are bound to the nucleus and can't actually move.

I was also wondering this as well. Is it actually just the H+ being donated?

Yes, a Bronsted acid donates a hydrogen ion (H+).

The proton they are referring to is the hydrogen ion.

Yeah, a Bronsted Acid should be donating a H+ ion.
