Calculations Involving Strong Acid (or Base)
Lavelle talked about calculations involving strong acids or bases. Can someone provide an example of one?

Are you referring to the problems that take the pH and do calculations with that using log?

Hello,
I believe you are talking about calculating pH levels, if so the formula is pH =-log [H3O+]. For example calculating the hydroxide concentration in a solution that has pOH 6.34.
On a calculator you would just put 10^-6.34.

Strong acids and bases are ones that deprotonate or protonate almost fully in water solutions, and they're the ones I think he said we will mostly use in this class (with exceptions).
For calculation we can treat a strong base like KOH in whatever concentration as equal to the OH ion concentration, since it will dissociate fully. Same goes for our acids, when considering hydronium ions. (This is in context of water)
