Sig Figs

Postby Mona El Masri 1F » Mon Jan 21, 2019 12:52 pm

If we were to mess up on sig figs, do we get a lot of points taken off? I had a different chem professor for 14A and sig figs were insignificant.

I also had a different professor so I'm not 100% sure but I have heard you cannot miss more than 2 points per test due to sig figs but they are graded so it is good to know.

I doubt you would get a whole lot of points taken off, but I know Professor Lavelle posted a resource on the class website going over sig fig rules if you want to brush up on them.

My TA said he will be lenient on the first test in regards to significant figures, but it probably depends on how your TA grades. Lavelle posted two links under "Math Assistance" on his website about significant figures that you can review.

Every time my TA does a problem he always tells us to follow sig fig rules so I do not think you would get a lot of points taken off but it is important to know
