HCl vs HClO

Postby Ashley Kao 1H » Sat Dec 07, 2019 10:44 am

I understand the trend that acids with more Oxygen are more acidic, but why is HCl more acidic than HClO?

I think this is because the conjugate base of HCl is more stable than that of HClO.

by definition: "a more stable conjugate base means a stronger acid"

Also, the size and difference in electronegativity of HCl makes it a stronger acid
