BaO is this basic because it is a non metal with O
SO3 and is this acidic because it is a metal with O
Or is there another way do distinguish the two?

To memorize acids you'll just have to memorize (typically they'll have H in the front, but not always). The strong acids are HCl, HBr, HI, H2SO4, HNO3, HClO3, and HClO4. For bases, it's a bit easier. Strong bases are group 1 and 2 hydroxides (OH) and oxides (O).

I'm pretty sure BaO is a strong base. Can I ask where you saw that it was an acid?

Yeah, BaO should definitely be one of the strong bases because it can react with H2O to produce Ba(OH)2.

Hi just to clear up the confusion and for the final, Professor Lavelle said we should know the list of strong acids and bases. If it is not on the list then we can assume it is a weak acid or base.
