lewis vs bronsted

lewis vs bronsted
Could someone explain to me the difference between Lewis Acids/ bases and Bronsted acids/bases. Im confused on how they are able to correlate because they sound like they are the opposite of each other( lewis acid being an acceptor and bronsted acid being a donor)

A Lewis acid will accept an electron pair while a Lewis base will donate an electron pair. A Bronsted acid will donate a proton while a Bronsted base will accept a proton. I think of it as the Lewis acid will be accepting electrons (making it more negative) and a Bronsted acid will be donating a proton (making it more negative). The Lewis base is donating electrons (making it more positive) and the Bronsted base is accepting protons (making it more positive). Hope this helps!

Lewis Acids/Bases deal with the transfer of electron pairs where:
-A Lewis Acid accepts a lone pair of electrons
-A Lewis Base donates a pair of electron
Bronsted Acids/Bases deal with the transfer of protons:
-A Bronsted Acid donates a H+
-A Bronsted Base accepts a H+
-A Lewis Acid accepts a lone pair of electrons

They are focusing on two opposite aspects to determine whether or not a substance is an acid or a base, but they are not contradictory as others have explained. However, Lewis acids cover a wider range. For instance, BCl3 is a Lewis acid but not a Bronsted acid as it can accept electrons but cannot donate any protons.

It can be easier to remember that Bronsted is the opposite of Lewis.

Bronsted refers to the protons while Lewis refers to the electrons. Bronsted acid will donate a proton while a Bronsted base will gain a proton. In terms of Lewis, a Lewis acid will gain a pair of electrons while a Lewis base will donate a pair of electrons. Lewis and Bronsted are just ways of describing the acids and bases but refer nonetheless a Lewis acid is the same compound as a Bronsted acid and same with bases.

Lewis focuses on electrons whereas Bronsted focus on protons
Lewis acid - e- acceptor
lewis base - e- donor
Bronsted acid - H+ donor
Bronsted base- accepts H+
Lewis acid - e- acceptor

They're essentially opposite: Lewis is about donating/receiving electrons, while Bronsted is about donating/receiving protons. So they're charges change in the same way, but different charges are donated. I think.

a lewis base donates protons while a lewis acid accepts protons. on the other hand a bronsted base accepts protons while a bronsted acid donates protons. think of it the opposite way for both
