metal/nonmetal oxides

Postby Eric Cruz 2G » Sat Dec 12, 2020 5:00 pm

I do not remember learning about metal/nonmetal oxides in class, but they were in the textbook. Are we expected to know them? If so, I'm still not sure why metals form basic oxides are why nonmetals form acidic oxides, could someone explain?

Know that metal oxides form basic oxides whereas nonmetal oxides form acidic oxides. You should also remember which form amphoteric oxides.

Metal oxides are typically basic, nonmetal oxides are usually acidic, and metalloid oxides are usually amphoteric.

Yes, we need to know that metal oxides are basic and that nonmetal oxides are acidic. I'm not too sure why this is the case, but it is easy to memorize.
