Protonation
What does it mean to be protonated? Dr.Lavelle uses this term many times in lecture but I wasn't sure if it was ever defined or explained and it's confusing my understanding. Can someone explain?

Re: Protonation
Hi! Additionally, when an acid molecule is in a solution, when the pH of the solution is less than the pKa of the molecule, the acid is said to be protonated and is an acidic solution. When the pH of the solution is less than the pKa of the molecule, the acid is de-protonated or a basic solution. Hope this helps!

I believe it means when a molecule accepts a proton and deprotonated means the opposite (losing a proton).
