acid stength

Postby rita_h » Fri Dec 03, 2021 1:52 pm

How do we deduce which acid is stronger? Do we look at the bond length or the electronegativity? & how do we know when to refer to bond length only or electronegativity only?

A high electronegativity difference usually leads to a weaker acid. If a bond is strong it is also a weak acid. The greater number of oxygen atoms attached to the central atom, the more strong an acid is and the greater the oxidation number of the central atom, the stronger the acid. I am not necessarily sure when to refer to bond length or electronegativity when determining if an acid is strong or not but I hope this helps with answering the rest of your questions.
