Acidic and Basic oxides

Postby 205769933 » Fri Dec 03, 2021 8:10 pm

Hi,

I was just wondering what we need to know about acidic and basic oxides. What practice problems should I focus on?

Thank you!

I think some good things to know about oxides is that nonmetal oxides are typically acidic, metalloids can be amphoteric, and metals oxides are typically basic. In addition, as the electronegativity of the atoms in an acidic oxide increase, they are able to distribute the electronegativity away from the O-H bond more effectively, thus making it more easy for the bond to break. Therefore, higher electronegativity atoms in an acidic oxide make the acid stronger.

and higher electropositive atoms make the base stronger?
