Bronsted Bases (Proton Acceptor Sites)

Postby Sasha Gladkikh 2A » Sat Dec 04, 2021 12:08 am

Hi,

In textbook exercise 6.21, it asks to determine the total number of proton acceptor sites for the Bronsted base. Do we count all the lone pairs in the molecule, or are there specific lone pairs that are regarded as proton acceptor sites?

I have attached the molecule of the exercise:

Yes I believe the lone pairs on the molecule is what is meant when referring to proton acceptor sites as the lone pairs is where the proton would bond to the base after the reaction.
