lewis acid/lewis base conjugates

Postby 205957986 » Sun Dec 10, 2023 11:05 pm

how do we determine what the conjugate bases and acids are when dealing with lewis acids and bases?

Conjugate acids will be the same molecule, with one fewer H+, while conjugate bases will be the parent molecule with an extra H+.

I disagree with Leia1H. While she is correct when referring to Bronsted or Arrhenius acids and bases, Lewis acids and bases are the opposite where a Lewis Base donates a proton while a Lewis Acid accepts a proton. In this case, the conjugate base is the original Lewis acid molecule plus however many H+ it took while the conjugate acid is the Lewis Base minus however many H+ it lost.
