ICE tables - Acids and Bases

Postby nithika karthikeyan 3H » Mon Jan 22, 2024 10:10 pm

Wht are ICE tables not used for strong acids and strong bases, but only for weak acids and weak bases?

This is because they completely dissolve. For example HCl will dissociate to become H+ and Cl-. Weak acids and weak bases tend to stay together for the most part meaning they will require an ice box because not all of it will dissociate.

ICE tables are for when acids or bases do not completely dissociate. For strong acids and strong bases, they completely dissociate and do not require the calculation of varied [H+] concentrations, rather they are the same concentration as the strong acid.
