### Textbook Problem 12.37

For each of the following weak acids, write the proton transfer equilibrium equation and the expression for the equilibrium constant $K_{a}$. Identify the conjugate base, writ ether appropriate proton transfer equation, and write the expression for basicity constant $K_{b}$.(a) $HClO_{2}$ (b) HCN (c) $C_{6}H_{5}OH$.

What is meant by the proton transfer equilibrium equation? Thank you!

I'm pretty sure it means to write the equation for the weak acid with water on one side and the acid's aqueous products on the other.
So HClO2 would be: HClO2 + H2O <--> H3O+ + ClO2- and you would write the Ka expression for this equation.

Then since ClO2- is the conjugate base, you would write the proton transfer equation for the base: ClO2- + H20 <--> HClO2 + OH- and write the Kb for this.
