How to tell what the conjugate is easily?
While I was doing the homework I was having trouble identifying the conjugates for acids and bases. Then I noticed that the conjugate is the molecule that had its proton removed if it's an acid and the molecule that had a proton added if it's a base. Is this a quick way to tell conjugates all the time?

Re: How to tell what the conjugate is easily?
Remember that an acid reactant has a corresponding conjugate base product and that a base reactant has a corresponding conjugate acid product. The conjugates basically tell you what the role of the product is in the reverse reaction. For example, an acid that donates a proton will produce a conjugate base, which in the reverse reaction, will take up a proton to re-form the original acid. Another way to look at conjugates is to define the conjugate acid as containing one more H atom and one more positive (+) charge than the base that formed it, and to define the conjugate base as containing one less H atom and one more negative (-) charge than the acid that formed it. Hopefully these guidelines for defining conjugate acids and conjugate bases will help you to recognize them in a chemical equation!
