% Ionization
IS percent ionization measured by dividing the change in concentration of initial concentration or is it measured by dividing the final by the initial????

To find percent ionization, you should divide the hydrogen concentration at equilibrium by the initial concentration of the acid, and multiply by 100.

For a given equation: acid + H2O ⇌ H3O+ + conjugate base
% ionization/dissociation = ([equilibrium concentration of H3O+] / [initial concentration of acid]) x 100
For a given equation: base + H2O ⇌ OH- + conjugate acid
% ionization/dissociation = ([equilibrium concentration of OH-] / [initial concentration of base]) x 100
So in general:
% ionization/dissociation = ([equilibrium concentration of (ion)] / [initial concentration of (what was ionized)]) x 100
% ionization/dissociation = ([equilibrium concentration of H3O+] / [initial concentration of acid]) x 100

Is the hydrogen proton concentration the same as the conjugate base concentration for an acid?
