Textbook 6A.1 part e and f - Which H will be removed?

Postby Narhayne Nacana 3B » Wed Dec 01, 2021 1:14 am

Hi ya'll! For this textbook question, it is asking to find the conjugate base for the acids C6H50H and CH3C00H in part e and f. I know we have to remove a proton aka an H atom, but for these, how do we know when to remove it from the H5 or OH in C6H5OH molecule in part e, and in part f the H2 or the carboxyl group?

Hey Narhayne!

For both acids, the hydrogen that will be removed is the hydrogen attached to the oxygen molecule.

I hope this helps!
