Percent Dissociation

Postby Julia_Belysheva_3K » Mon Jan 29, 2024 9:29 pm

Why would increasing the original concentration of a solution cause the percent dissociation to become lower? Wouldn't a greater initial concentration of (for example) HA cause greater concentration of H+ at equilibrium and thus keep the ratio the same?

the percent dissociation would decrease when the concentration increases because there is less water to react with the reactant. If there is more reactant and not enough water, only a certain amount would dissociate, and the percent of dissociation would decrease. IF both the reactant and solution increased, then the percent dissociation wouldnt change. it lowers because there is not enough water to react with it.
