What exactly is pKa and how does it relate to pH and Ka?

pKa (Acid Strength): Think of pKa as a measure of how eager an acid is to donate a proton (H⁺) in a solution. A lower pKa means the acid is more willing to give up its proton, indicating a stronger acid. Ka (Acid Dissociation Constant): This represents how well an acid dissociates into its ions in a solution. A higher Ka value suggests a higher degree of ionization, indicating a stronger acid. pH (Acidity/Alkalinity): pH measures the concentration of hydrogen ions (H⁺) in a solution. Lower pH values indicate more acidic solutions, while higher pH values indicate more basic solutions.

pKa is just the -log(Ka), Thats why there is a p in front of it. In relation, the larger the number for pKa, the weaker the acid it is as such, it would be a lower pH. To find the Ka from pKa is just 10^-pKa.

pKa essentially tells you how strong an acid is. A high Ka value indicates a high concentration of H+ ions, this also goes in hand with a small pKa value since pKa = -log[Ka]. Therefore, we can conclude that the lower the pKa or the higher the Ka, the stronger the acid which also tells us how acidic or basic a solution is. If the pH is lower than the pKa, it is more acidic. If the pH is higher, it is more basic.
