Relationship between pKa and Ka?

Postby Anh Nguyen 3E » Sat Feb 03, 2024 4:01 pm

In terms of Ka and Kb I understand that the lower Ka, the weaker the acid and the higher it is the stronger the acid. And same thing with Kb. However what is the relationship with Ka and PKa? Does a smaller pka value mean a strong or weak acid.

Yes, so the smaller the pka the stronger the acid is, and the bigger the Ka, the stronger the acid is. Therefore, they have an opposite relationship when it comes down to the strength of the acid.
