When solving these equations, where does log come from? Why d we use log?

### Re: using log

Hi! Logs are used because they allow us to evaluate very small quantities of compounds such as the concentrations of the base or the acid in order to find pH and/or pOH. Hope that helped!

### Re: using log

Well log is short for logarithm, which is an essential way of expressing pH. pH describes the concentration of H+ ions in a solution, thus describing the strength of the solution (i.e. it's parts of Hydrogen or PH). Log is simply used to appreviate.

Conversely there is pOH, as described in the course reader.

Hope that helps!
