### pH in changing temperature

Would the pH of pure water increase or decrease with increasing temperature? Does this mean that pure water is acidic/basic at temperatures other than 25 C or that the entire pH scale is different at other temperatures? Thanks

The pH of pure water decreases with increasing temp. If the pH falls and the temp is increased, this does not mean that water becomes more acidic at higher temps. For pure water, there is always the same concentration of hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions so water is still neutral (pH = pOH) even if its pH changes.

pH of pure water decreases as the temperature increases. Although the pH of pure water changes with temperature, it is important to realize that it is still neutral. In the case of pure water, there are going to be the same number of hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions.

If it has the same amount, how does pH decrease? What effect does temperature have in this situation?

The pH of pure water decreases with increasing temp. If the pH falls and the temp is increased, water is still not acidic as the concentrations of H+ and OH- are the same pH = pOH.
