### triple equal sign

I'm not really sure what to call it but what does the equal sign but with three lines mean? I wrote that pKA=-log[KA] in my notes and that p=-log except that for the p equation the equal sign had 3 lines. Was this just a typo or does it have a significance?

### Re: triple equal sign

It could be a typo, but it might be signifying that p is 'equivalent' to -log, rather than 'equal' to -log. The difference would be that the use of p (like in pKA) is the same as the use of -log with [KA], yet saying p = -log would be inaccurate since -log is acting as an operator.

### Re: triple equal sign

This is likely not a typo, because the triple equal sign means "is equivalent to," which is more specific than "is equal to."
