pH of water according to temp
Does the pH of water change according to its temperature? If so, can somebody explain how that relationship works?

Re: pH of water according to temp
When you increase the temperature of water, the reaction of H2O <-> H+ + OH- shifts to the right to balance the change. It attempts to counteract the temperature increase by breaking bonds, an endothermic process (requires energy/heat). This produces more H+ ions, increasing the concentration of H+, which decreases the pH.
Re: pH of water according to temp
Yes, the above is correct. Put more simply, increasing the temperature of the reaction increases the reaction rate because it causes more particles to collide and more reactions to occur. At this point, however, we generally don't need to know any calculations in terms of pH changing as temperature increases. We are just given the temperature that a system is at and calculate pH normally.
